What we build

Every fence, built the same careful way

Nine kinds of fencing for homes and businesses across Central Connecticut — every post set by hand, below the frost line.

    Wood fences

Cedar and pressure-treated pine, built by hand for warmth and privacy.

  • White slatted privacy fence along a shaded lawn beside a white house

    Vinyl fences

Clean privacy with almost no upkeep. Never needs paint or stain.

  • Chain link mesh in close-up with blurred city lights behind it

    Chain link fences

The strong, affordable way to fence a yard, keep pets in or secure a lot.

  • Black aluminum fence across a lawn in front of shrubs and a gray house

    Aluminum & ornamental

The look of wrought iron without the rust. Great for curb appeal.

  • Raised deck with gray railings and flower boxes in a fenced backyard

    Privacy fences

Block the view, cut the noise and make the backyard yours again.

  • Swimming pool enclosed by a glass panel barrier, with a dark wooden fence along the back of the yard

    Pool fences

    Code-correct pool barriers with self-closing, self-latching gates.

  • Wood privacy fence with a double gate stepping down a grassy slope

    Gates

Walk and drive gates hung to swing true and latch every time.

  • Split, weathered wooden fence rail with an old barn out of focus behind it

    Fence repair

Leaning posts, broken boards, a gate that won’t latch — fixed right.

  • Chain link gate with a yellow frame closing an alley, a pickup truck parked beyond it

    Commercial fencing

Secure, durable fencing for businesses, lots and properties.

How we build

Why our fences don’t lean after the first winter

Connecticut ground freezes deep every winter and thaws every spring. That cycle pushes shallow posts up and out of line — so we dig below it.

  • Dug below the frost line

Post holes go about 42 inches deep, past the soil that freezes.

  • Concrete footings that shed water

Crowned at the top so rain runs off instead of pooling at the post.

  • Strung, leveled, measured

String lines and levels on every run, so lines stay straight and tops stay even.

  • Tested before we leave

Gates swing and latch, and we walk the line with you before we call it done.

Reviews

What homeowners say

Every job ends with a walkthrough — and a request for an honest review.

We hired them to replace our old chain link fence with a 6-foot privacy fence, and honestly couldn’t be happier. The owner came out for the estimate himself, walked the whole property with me, and explained every option without pushing the most expensive one. His crew showed up on time every day, and the yard was left cleaner than they found it. You can tell 25+ years of experience makes a difference — every post is plumb, every board lines up. Neighbors have already asked who did it. Highly recommend to anyone in CT.

Our yard has a serious slope and two other companies quoted us crazy numbers or said it couldn’t be done the way we wanted. These guys looked at it for five minutes and had a plan. The fence follows the grade perfectly and the gates swing smooth. This is what real experience looks like — you can tell they’ve been doing this for over 25 years. The real deal in Connecticut.
Tom S.
If you need a fence in CT, stop looking and call these guys. They’ve been in the business for 25+ years and it shows in every detail. Professional crew, no surprises on the invoice, and a beautiful finished product. Our vinyl fence still looks brand new two years later. 10/10.

Alexander and his team were great from start to finish. Fair price, quality materials, and the fence looks fantastic. They finished a day earlier than expected too. Will definitely call them again for our back gate.
Karen D.
Had storm damage to a section of our fence and they came out within two days. Matched the new boards to our existing fence so well you can’t even tell where the repair is. Honest, straightforward, and reasonably priced. Rare to find these days.

FAQ

Questions homeowners ask

Do I need a permit for a fence in Connecticut?

Most fences up to 7 feet don’t need a state building permit, but each town sets its own zoning rules. Newington, for example, limits front-yard fences to 4 feet. We check your town’s rules and help with the paperwork.

How deep do you set fence posts?

We set posts below the Connecticut frost line, about 42 inches down, in concrete. That is the step that keeps a fence from leaning after the freeze-and-thaw of our winters.

Do you repair fences you didn’t build?

Yes. We repair fences of every kind no matter who installed them, from leaning posts and broken boards to gates that will not latch.

Are you registered and insured?

Yes. A&L Fence LLC is a Registered Connecticut Home Improvement Contractor, registration number HIC.0706261, and is insured.
