About A&L Fence

Yes. Estimates are free and there is no pressure. Call or send a message and we will come look at your yard, talk through your options, and give you an honest price in writing.

Who actually builds the fence?
Owner Alexander Medina is on the job himself. He has spent more than 25 years building and repairing fences, and he sets the posts, hangs the boards and checks every run in person.
Where do you work?
We are based in New Britain and serve Middletown, Avon, West Hartford, Glastonbury, Rocky Hill, Newington, Southington, Cheshire, Berlin and Farmington.
How we build
Posts, permits and pools
How deep do you set your fence posts?
We set posts below the Connecticut frost line, about 42 inches down, in concrete. That is the step that keeps a fence from leaning after the freeze-and-thaw of our winters.
Do I need a permit to put up a fence?
In many towns, yes. Fence rules are set town by town. We check your town’s rules, help with the permit step when one is needed, and build to code.
Does Connecticut require a fence around my pool?
Yes. Connecticut requires a barrier around a pool to keep young children and pets away from the water on their own. The fence has to meet rules for height, gap spacing, and a self-closing, self-latching gate. We build pool fences to meet those rules.
Do you call before you dig?
Yes. Connecticut requires two full working days’ notice before digging so buried utilities can be marked. We contact Call Before You Dig before every installation.
Choosing
Choosing a fence and price
How do I choose the right type of fence?
Start with the job the fence has to do. For privacy, solid wood or vinyl works best. For pets and play areas, chain link is strong and affordable. For front yards and pools, aluminum looks sharp and meets safety rules.
Which type of fence costs the least?
Chain link is usually the most affordable fence we install, which is why it is the go-to for pets and property lines. Wood sits in the middle. Vinyl costs more up front but needs almost no upkeep. The real price depends on length, height and your yard, so we give you an exact number in a free estimate.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace my fence?
It depends on how much of the fence is in trouble. If the damage is in a few spots, a repair is almost always the cheaper, smarter move. If most of the fence is rotted or leaning, we will show you why a replacement may save you money over time.
Do you repair fences you did not build?
Yes. We repair fences of every kind no matter who installed them, from leaning posts and broken boards to gates that will not latch.
