Steel & wrought iron
Steel, wrought iron and iron repair
Steel and wrought iron fences are heavier and stiffer than aluminum, with the traditional look you see around older homes and entries.
Iron and steel can rust where the finish is broken, so they need touch-up over the years. If you want the look with less upkeep, we will also show you aluminum.
- Steel fence panels and gates
- New wrought iron fencing
- Repairs to existing iron fences and gates

How we build
Why our fences don’t lean after the first winter
Connecticut ground freezes deep every winter and thaws every spring. That cycle pushes shallow posts up and out of line — so we dig below it.

Dug below the frost line
Post holes go about 42 inches deep, past the soil that freezes.
Concrete footings that shed water
Crowned at the top so rain runs off instead of pooling at the post.
Strung, leveled, measured
String lines and levels on every run, so lines stay straight and tops stay even.

FAQ
Steel and iron questions
What is the difference between aluminum, steel and wrought iron?
They look alike from the street. Aluminum is light and does not rust. Steel is heavier and stronger. Wrought iron is the traditional material and the heaviest. Steel and iron need their finish kept up to keep rust away.
Can you repair an old iron fence?
Yes. We repair existing wrought iron fences and gates. We look at how far the rust or damage goes and tell you plainly whether a repair will hold.
Do steel and iron fences rust?
They can, where the finish is chipped or worn. Touching up the paint keeps rust from starting. If you want a metal fence with very little upkeep, aluminum is the better pick.
