Chain link fences

Chain link options

Chain link is the workhorse of fencing. It is strong, it is affordable, and it does its job with almost no upkeep. It will not give you privacy on its own, but it is tough.

A chain link fence is only as strong as its posts and how tight the mesh is pulled. We set the posts in concrete below the frost line and stretch the chain link tight so it does not sag or bow.

  • Standard galvanized, the shiny silver kind
  • Black vinyl-coated, which blends into a yard
  • Privacy slats woven through the links
  • Walk gates and wide drive gates to match

How we build

Why our fences don’t lean after the first winter

Connecticut ground freezes deep every winter and thaws every spring. That cycle pushes shallow posts up and out of line — so we dig below it.

  • Dug below the frost line

Post holes go about 42 inches deep, past the soil that freezes.

  • Concrete footings that shed water

Crowned at the top so rain runs off instead of pooling at the post.

  • Strung, leveled, measured

String lines and levels on every run, so lines stay straight and tops stay even.

  • Tested before we leave

Gates swing and latch, and we walk the line with you before we call it done.

FAQ

Chain link questions

  • Can chain link keep my dog in the yard?

Yes, that is one of the most common reasons people put it in. We size the height to your dog and can run the fence tight to the ground so a digger cannot slip under.

  • What is vinyl-coated chain link?

It is chain link with a bonded coating, usually black or green, over the metal. It looks cleaner than shiny galvanized, blends into a yard, and adds a layer of protection against rust. It costs a little more and many homeowners prefer the look.

  • Can I get privacy with a chain link fence?

You can add privacy slats that weave through the links to block the view, or grow plants along it. On its own, chain link is an open fence. If full privacy is the goal, we will also show you wood and vinyl options.
