Dog fences
Ways to fence in a dog
The right dog fence depends on the dog. A jumper needs height. A digger needs the fence tight to the ground. A small dog needs gaps it cannot squeeze through.
We size the fence to your dog and your yard, and we tell you plainly which style will hold.
- Chain link, the most common choice
- Wood or vinyl privacy fences for dogs that react to what they see
- Wire mesh on a split rail fence
- Dog runs and kennels
- Underground dog fence

How we build
Why our fences don’t lean after the first winter
Connecticut ground freezes deep every winter and thaws every spring. That cycle pushes shallow posts up and out of line — so we dig below it.

Gravel base for drainage
Dug below the frost line
Post holes go about 42 inches deep, past the soil that freezes.
Concrete footings that shed water
Crowned at the top so rain runs off instead of pooling at the post.
Strung, leveled, measured
String lines and levels on every run, so lines stay straight and tops stay even.

Gates swing and latch, and we walk the line with you before we call it done.

FAQ
Dog fence questions
Can chain link keep my dog in the yard?
Yes, that is one of the most common reasons people put it in. We size the height to your dog and can run the fence tight to the ground so a digger cannot slip under.
How tall should a dog fence be?
It depends on the dog. Four feet holds many dogs. Large dogs and jumpers usually need five or six feet. We look at your dog and your town’s height limits and recommend a height.
Will a split rail fence hold a dog?
Not by itself, because the rails are too far apart. With wire mesh fixed to the inside, it keeps most dogs in and still looks open.
