How fence pricing works.
Every yard is different, so we don’t post a price list. Here is what your price depends on, and how to get an exact number in writing.
Straight answers on price
What your fence price depends on
Every yard is different, so we don’t guess. Alexander measures your yard and gives you a clear written price before any work starts.
- The length and height of the fence
- The material and style you choose
- How many gates you need
- Your ground: slopes, rock and tree roots
- Whether an old fence has to come out first

The big three
What changes the price of a fence
The material
Chain link costs the least. Wood is in the middle. Vinyl and aluminum cost more up front, but they need almost no upkeep over the years.
The length and height
A bigger yard takes more posts, more panels and more labor. A six-foot privacy fence costs more per foot than a four-foot picket fence.
Your yard
A flat, open yard is the fastest to fence. Slopes, rocky ground, tree roots, corners and gates add time.

Permits
Many Connecticut towns ask for a permit or zoning sign-off before you build. The fee is usually small. We help with the permit step.
Old fence removal
If an old fence has to come down first, that adds labor and disposal. Fences with concrete footings take more work.
Gates
Every gate adds cost. A simple walk gate adds a little. A double drive gate for vehicles adds more.
Property surveys
If you are not sure where your property line is, you may need a survey before you build.
Value
How to get the best value
The cheapest fence is not always the best deal. Three things decide whether a fence is good value.
- Pick the right material for your situation
- Get the posts set right: in Connecticut the frost line is about 42 inches deep
- Get a written estimate: a real estimate takes a real visit to your yard

FAQ
Pricing questions
Why don’t you list prices?
Because a real price depends on your yard: the length, the height, the ground and the gates. Alexander measures it and gives you an exact price in writing, free, before any work starts.
Which type of fence costs the least?
Chain link is usually the most affordable fence we install, which is why it is the go-to for pets and property lines. Wood sits in the middle. Vinyl costs more up front but needs almost no upkeep. The real price depends on length, height and your yard, so we give you an exact number in a free estimate.
Is it cheaper to repair or replace my fence?
It depends on how much of the fence is in trouble. If the damage is in a few spots, a repair is almost always the cheaper, smarter move. If most of the fence is rotted or leaning, we will show you why a replacement may save you money over time.
